ABOUT TINA BROOKS

Art & design has been a life-long passion for me having studied Fine Art at University followed by an MA in Architectural Interior Design. This led me into a career in Interiors and then 12 years running my own fashion business.

However, the desire to return to a more artistic life has never left me and 3 years ago I tentatively began painting again.

Since then I have become increasingly immersed in my creative practice and have come to understand my painting not just as a whim but as a part of who I am; painting is very much an expression of my inner-self and a place where I find my authentic voice.

Whilst I am drawn to the beauty of nature in all it's forms, it is the landscape that is my true inspiration - the line and form of the terrain and the relationship of the sky to the land are ongoing themes - I am constantly drawn to the placement of the horizon and the subtleties of perspective and proportion. The changing seasons often inform my colour pallet and the pattern and forms of the landscape tend to dictate the composition.

I enjoy working from memory, especially when painting landscapes, and have learnt to trust myself to capture the important information in my minds eye - this allows me a loser, more expressive way of working and an intuitive approach to placing my subject (and my emotion) on the canvas. I work in both oil and acrylic depending on the subject (and my mood); oils allow me to work at a slower, more contemplative pace while acrylic, with it's quick drying time, encourages me to be decisive in my mark making and instinctive in my response.
